VS-TEN 2.0
6 March, 2010: Auto-pause in now in effect: Comm errors will cause interfaces to pause, to improve the end-user experience. Exchange owners may un-pause their interfaces when the issue is resolved.
7 March, 2010: There was a major outage this morning, between 4 and 8am eastern time. It appears to be over, so site edits will re-start this evening.

SubNets

Within about a week of starting the beta testing (back in 2004-2007), one of our candidates came up with a great couple questions, which are leading us to create a whole new money-making opportunity.

The question was: "can I run a network, too?"

The short answer is "yes, but not today".  Below, we'll tell you what we're thinking, and if there's enough interest, we will do it once we get the final site moved to vs-ten.com on a dedicated server.

Why we like this idea

The internet is robust... knock out a router, and browsers can still find websites through 'alternative routes'... even the massive switch destruction of September 11th, 2001 simply slowed access to certain parts of the internet.  It seems silly, if we're creating a network of exchanges, to get all these exchanges to point to a possible single-point-of-failure.  So, we're going to create a 'redundancy list', which will provide multiple sites running the same or similar exchanges.

What exactly will be offered:

This will be a mostly turnkey business for someone involved in traffic exchanging.  You will be able to work with other exchanges, and bring in members.  In exchange for this work, you will get part of the membership fee.  In addition, you will be able to 'clear' tokens through our central exchange.

We're starting gradually... 4 sites, and probably another 10 over the six weeks or so.  Still, a 14+ site network is a good start.  So, if you start a sub-net of our system, you will be able to honestly invite people in to "your" 14+ site network, with redundancy at the main site.

The idea here is that you connect and join any ONE of the members of the subnet, and can then access the network through ANY of the members of the subnet.  In general, members will be required to access the network through the site they  joined.  However, in the event of a service outage, other sites will be available to provide you with service.

We will provide an advanced interface layer that manages your member-sites' subnet-seeking behavior.

When we will offer it:

Just like the main network, we will set up a sub-net beta.  Once we have moved to the dedicated server, we will start preparing the beta for sub-net.  We will add to this page as events unfold in that regard.

New Update: Now that we have upgraded the system to the Skeleton CMS, sub-nets are possible.  We have 2 small development projects to do that will make this possible, either as part of our network, or as a stand-alone private network.  However, as stated above, we want to be free-standing ourselves (not part of the varisearch.com domain) before we start offering this as a franchise or partnership.  However, it is 'in the works'.
